  • NCPDP Leaders in Washington, D.C. to Continue EDvocacy

    NCPDP leaders have been in Washington, D.C. the week of July 14 visiting with members of Congress, government agencies and offices of the administration to continue building awareness of NCPDP’s role in creating healthcare solutions and NCPDP’s value as a resource to policymakers. National solutions for Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMP) and Electronic Prior Authorization (EPA) were among specific topics of discussion.

  • Only One Week Left to Register Online The deadline for online registration for the August Joint Technical Work Group Meetings is Friday, July 18, 2014. The August work group meetings are August 6-8, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing. If you want to have your name badge waiting for you at registration and your name listed on the published attendee roster, you must register online by July 18, 2014.
  • It's Time to Update Your NCPDP External Code List!

    This is a reminder that the NCPDP Telecommunication Standard Version D.0 supports the NCPDP External Code List (ECL) where updated and new values are available for use with each ECL publication. To achieve consistency and standardization across all industry participants, NCPDP recommends the adoption of an annual ECL implementation schedule as well as specified Emergency ECL dates for use within the Telecommunication Standard.

    The next annual implementation is scheduled for October 15, 2014.

  • 2014 National Drug Control Policy Released The White House released its national blueprint for drug policy, the 2014 National Drug Control Strategy this week. This document builds on drug policy reform achieved during the past four years, beginning with the Administration’s inaugural Strategy, released in 2010. This Strategy calls for drug policy reform rooted in scientific research on addiction, evidence-based prevention programs, increased access to treatment, a historic emphasis on recovery, and criminal justice reform.
  • Registration Now Open for 2014 Educational Summit

    Registration is now open for the 2014 Educational Summit, Improving the Infrastructure for Continuity of Care, November 11, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis, IN. The content-rich program will focus on hot topics such as the Expanding Role of the Pharmacist: Identifying Gaps, the Lifecycle of ePrescribing, National Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) efforts and new government requirements.   • Follow Up Letter to FDA on Naming Biosimilars NCPDP representatives recently met with the FDA to explain and stress the patient safety risk of moving to nontraditional names for biosimilars. Both in the meeting and in a follow-up letter to the FDA, the NCPDP representatives strongly urged the FDA to give biosimilars and their reference products the same nonproprietary names. Inside Health Policy (IHP), an Inside Washington News Service covered the issue and NCPDP's discussion in a subscriber-only online article on June 18, 2014.
  • Standardize Units for Dosing Liquid Oral Prescription Medicines NCPDP best practice recommendations to adopt the milliliter (mL) as the standard measure for dosing designations and labeling of oral liquid medications was highlighted recently in an online Pharmacy News article published by the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP). The article includes comments from NCPDP President Lee Ann Stember and several members of the Work Group 10 task group that authored the white paper putting forth the recommendations.
