  • Congratulations to New Board Members! Congratulations to the new board member and to one incumbent who have been elected to the NCPDP Board of Trustees by vote of the membership. The new board member is Michele Vilaret Davidson, R.Ph., manager, pharmacy technical standards, development and policy, Walgreen Co. and Russell B. Keith (Rusty), vice president, pharmacy and PBM account management, Surescripts, LLC was re-elected to the Board for another term.

  • NCPDP Issues Patient Safety Guidance on Dosing of Oral Liquid Medications NCPDP announced the availability of a patient safety white paper that provides specific industry guidance for standardizing the dosing designations and labeling of oral liquid medications. The white paper details patient risks associated with the variety of oral liquid dosing designations, prescribing practices and processing systems which can lead to dispensing and later administration errors that can harm patients - especially pediatric patients who are often prescribed liquid medications.   • ICD-10 Delay Now Law On Tuesday, the President signed H.R. 4302 Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 preventing steep cuts to Medicare payments from going into effect for one year and also delaying the conversion to ICD-10 diagnostic and procedure codes for at least one year. The legislation, which was a compromise brokered between House and Senate Leadership, passed through the House last week and through the Senate on Monday.
  • Board Chair, Tom Bizzaro, Speaks to Pharmacy Research Group in China In February, Tom Bizzaro was invited to speak at the Forum for Improving Drug Classification, Coding Standardization and Medical Insurance Database Management, a pharmacy forum sponsored by the China Health Insurance Research Association (CHIRA) and held in Beijing. This forum is the beginning of a three-year program to look at the way pharmacy benefits are administered in China, as well as examining methods to help combat fraud and abuse.   • General Business Session Documents Now Available

    The NCPDP General Business Session will be held Monday, May 5, 2014 at 5:15 p.m. immediately following the May work group meetings. During the session, the approval of the 2013 General Business Session minutes will be requested. The 2014 agenda and the 2013 minutes are available for download on the MC Maintenance and Control page.

  • NCPDP's Executive Association Tour is Well Received

    In line with NCPDP’s EDvocacy and Industry Relations initiatives, members of our senior leadership recently traveled to Washington D.C. on an Association Tour. Board Chair Tom Bizzaro, R.Ph., President Lee Ann Stember, and Senior Vice President of Public Policy and Industry Relations Steve Mullenix, R.Ph., met with the senior leadership of nine different industry associations to discuss issues of mutual interest. Among the discussion topics were: PDMP, expansion of pharmacy’s role in meaningful use, pharmacist as provider, ePA and other relevant areas of NCPDP’s standards development activities, including synchronization and pharmacist-administered immunization.
