NCPDP recently interviewed member, Nick Calla, vice president of industry relations for the Community Specialty Pharmacy Network (CSPN), a group of community-based specialty pharmacies responsible for almost $1 billion in specialty sales. Calla is deeply involved in specialty pharmacy and believes “NCPDP will help the future of specialty pharmacy, and is helping today, through standardizing some of the behaviors, transmissions and services being offered.” Read the complete interview.
Calla’s interview is timely as Phil Hagerman, R.Ph., president & CEO, and Jennifer Cretu, vice president, IT & marketing, Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy will share a general overview of where specialty pharmacy is going, as well as the drivers most impacting the change at NCPDP’s upcoming 2014 Annual Technology & Business Conference in May at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, AZ. Hear about the buy, build and partner model, dive deep into the disrupting business and environmental factors, and review how to meet the challenges of utilizing technology.

Steven Miller, M.D., MBA, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Express Scripts, and others in the healthcare field see great potential for lower-cost alternative medications as a tool for reducing healthcare costs, while improving access and affordability of lifesaving treatments for some of the sickest Americans. Biologic drugs – typically injected to treat chronic and costly conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis – are made from living organisms in a process that is more complex than producing pills.
Join Dr. Miller as he explores the issues associated with biosimilars, including the fact that branded biosimilars are already on the market and yielding results in the European Union and other countries. Yet the U.S. has not established a clear regulatory path for their approval.
Register today for NCPDP’s 2014 Annual Technology & Business Conference, Coloring Outside the Lines, May 4-7, 2014 at the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa in Scottsdale, AZ.
The NCPDP Networking Reception, sponsored by Express Scripts, was held during the Joint Technical Work Group Meetings in San Antonio earlier this month. The exhibit style format offered members an opportunity to talk with NCPDP representatives in a relaxed social setting about how to get involved with committees, the Buddy Program, work groups, and the Mentorship Program.
Three new Buddies joined the program, four mentees and two mentors signed up to participate in the 2014-2015 Mentorship Program and over 50 commitments were made to serve on committees! Thank you to all of the members who participated in this event and special thanks to those who volunteered to serve on committees and programs. Getting involved with NCPDP is the best way to ensure maximum value from your membership.
