The NCPDP Provider Identification Number was developed over twenty years ago to provide pharmacies with a
unique, national identifying number that would assist pharmacies in their interactions with federal agencies and third
party providers. The NCPDP Provider Identification Number, formerly known as the NCPDP/NABP pharmacy numbering list,
contains over 70,000 pharmacies.
It is a seven-digit numbering system that is assigned to every licensed pharmacy qualified Alternate Site
Enumeration Program (ASEP) site in the United States. NCPDP currently maintains and updates this database, and
it is available for processing and reference purposes.
