29 Jan 2016: Across the country, health information exchanges (HIEs) are making advancements in connecting hospitals and providers to better coordinate care and improve outcomes. This advancement in technology makes it possible to link all of the providers who care for a patient and create a more complete medical record of the patient. However, there are legal and technical barriers that keep providers from sharing physical and behavioral health information. In fact, the actual integration of physical and behavioral health information in one HIE is a new frontier.
